1929 PRICE LIST OF STANDARD
AND RARE GLADIOLUS

The Gladiolus stands at the top of the list as the very best summer cut flower
for most every occasion. It is tall, stately, yet graceful, and comes in all colors (ex¬
cept blue), from pure white to blood red, with all shades and color combinations
imaginable, and will keep a week to ten days after cutting. It is easily grown in any
good garden soil that is not too shady. They love sunshine and can stand a lot of dry
weather. Plant some bulbs every two or three weeks from latter April to latter June,
and you will have blooms continuously from mid-July to mid-October. Dig bulbs in
latter October and store in frost-proof cellar.

INFORMATION

Bulbs are sized as follows; No. 11% in. or more in diameter; No. 2 1% to \Yi in-!
No. 3 1 to 1 % in.; No. 4 % to 1 in.; No. 5 % to % in.; No. 6 % to % in.

In common with many growers, we list all bulbs of No. 1 and No. 2 sizes as L (large)
size, as either size will give good full sized blooms. Nos. 3 and 4 are listed as M. (medium)

size and will bloom well but not quite as early and some kinds not quite as large. Nos. 5 and

6 are listed as S. (small) size, and while many such will bloom the blooms will be smaller and

considerably later to bloom, but will make fine bulbs for the next year, can be bought much
cheaper, and will produce lots of bulblets. L. size will be about Ms No. 1 and % No. 2.
M. about Ms 3 and 4; S. usually more 5 than 6.

Some kinds divide themselves naturally into two or more new bulbs when L. size are
planted. Other kinds grow to be 21/2 to 3 % inches in diameter and are often called J.
(jumbo) bulbs. The J. bulbs can be peeled and cut in two and each half will produce a
fine bloom and nice large new bulb. Peel and cut carefully (just before planting) right down
through the middle of bulb, which will leave an eye on top and part of root surface on bottom
of each half. Plant the same as an L. size bulb. J. size bulbs are quoted slightly
higher than L. size, as each will give two when cut.

All prices in this list are postpaid. We issue a wholesale sheet for those wishing to buy 250

or more of one size and variety. It is free.

We never substitute without your permission, only that in the same variety we may give
equal or better value in a different size if out of the size ordered unless you request us not to
do so. If out of variety ordered we return your money unless you give us a second choice.
A second choice is often wise, as it may save correspondence, and we are always very liberal in
filling second choice orders.

We guarantee all stock true to name. If a mistake occurs we will replace liberally or
refund your money.

Our stock has been twice state inspected, once while growing and again in storage, and
was pronounced 100 per cent healthy.

Ninety percent of our bulbs are grown on soil that never grew Glads before. We
rotate with vegetables, field crops and other flowers.

Minimum item of bulbs 10c; half dozen bulbs at dozen rate; 25 bulbs at 100 rate.

Pints and Half Pints of bulblets at the Quart rate. Any quantity of bulblets at
the 1000 rate but no bulblet item less than 15c.

TERMS: Cash. 25 Percent will hold order till April 1 if desired.

AN INVITATION

Located as we are on the paved Jefferson Highway (No. 1) we sell thousands of cut
flowers to passersby as well as locally, and also ship many cut blooms, both wholesale and re¬
tail. These consist of tulips, iris, peonies, delphiniums, various other annuals and perennials and
gladiolus. Whenever we have sufficient to do so, we slip in extras with every order, and I
know we enjoy it as much as the customer does.

The “youngest and fairest” member of our family, Miss Dorene (now sweet 16) is usu¬
ally flower girl in the summer vacation, and somehow never can stop at 12 for a dozen and
she says daddy is no better, for she says his bulb dozens are usually 13 or 14, so why shouldn't
her flower dozens be the same? Anyway come and see the flowers whether you buy or not.
We enjoy showing them and giving lots away almost as well as selling them.

Some folks say that is why we don’t get rich at the flower business. Maybe so. Any¬
how we enjoy giving to the church, many sick people, or even some poorly dressed people in a
battered old Ford that just seem to love flowers as well as if they were millionaires.

CUT FLOWERS BY MAIL

When plentiful we sell all cut flowers here at 50c a dozen We cut in bud and pack for
shipment at 75c a dozen, and we ship postpaid at $1.00 a dozen up to 500 miles. If distance
is short we add more flowers to equalize the less parcel post rate. In other \yords, you always
get your money’s worth. Peonies and gladiolus ship well and open up finely on arrival when
placed in water.

AMERICAN GLADIOLUS SOCIETY

The American Gladiolus Society is an organization that sponsors an annual gladiolus
show and assists the regional shows and publishes a monthly magazine devoted entirely to
Gladiolus. Membership is $2.00 a year including the magazine. Every Glad, lover should join.
Send the $2.00 to Roscoe Huff, Sec’y, Goshen, Ind., or send it to me and I’ll send it in and
also allow you to select any 50 cents worth of Glad bulbs from my list free.

THE FLOWER GROWER, CALCIUM, N. Y.

is the best all round flower magazine in America. Subscription $2.00 per year, $5.00 for

EXTRAS

We always slip in some extras with every order, the number of course depending on the
size of the order. Usually the extra or extras will be different than any in your order and often
newer varieties when we can spare them.
