NOVELTIES - 1934

MRS. FRANKLIN DELANO ROOSEVELT

(DePetris)

A large, bright yellow chrysanthemum maturing about
November 15th.

Properly grown, this flower is unsurpassed in all com¬
mercial qualities. Its color, form and keeping qualities are
superb ; but careful growing is required to overcome a tendency
towards weakness in the stem. The plant is vigorous and
grows very tall, but for best results must not be planted too
late.

We predict this variety will become popular among those
who grow it carefully and well.

Price: $15.00 per 100 $125.00 per 1000

JOAN WELLS

Sport of Pink Dot and similar to it excepting that in the
flower, bronze replaces dark pink and straw color replaces light
pink. Like its parent, it is most effective when cut early.

Price: $12.00 per 100 $100.00 per 1000

BRONZE VOLUNTEER

A rich bronze Anemone to be grown in sprays — sport of
Volunteer. A novel color — very acceptable to the retail trade.
We believe this is worth while.

Price: $12.00 per 100 $100.00 per 1000

Pompons— Large Flowering and Button Types

Under the heading of type, we attempt to classify pompons into large pompon and button types.
The distinction is largely one of size, though the latter classification contains more of the true, compact,
rounded type than the former.

Pot Plant Varieties

In addition to varieties listed here as essentially intended for pot plant culture, many of the
varieties listed under Pompons are excellent as pot plants. Short and medium sorts should be used for
this purpose. Most of the varieties classified as button type are satisfactory as pot plants.

CARNATION ROOTED CUTTINGS

“JO A N

PLANT PATENT No. 3
(October.20th, 1931) >

The Sensational NEW WHITE CARNATION
To Be Disseminated in 1934

CHARACTERISTICS OF GROWTH
AND HABIT OF JOAN MARIE

Following is Description Of Introducers

1.  The  flower  is  of  unusual  size;
much larger than existing varieties.
It has a high, full center and is very
fully petalled, thus giving to the
flower a flne formation. It is the
largest white carnation that has
ever been offered to the trade. Its
size is apparent at the beginning
of the season and continues
throughout the entire season.

2. The color is pure white, and
neither fumigation, nor unseason¬
able weather at any time of the
year affects its color. It never
shows any pink stripes or gets off¬
color.

3. The calyx is very large and full,
and because of its formation JOAN
MARIE does not split to any extent.
Splitting does not even have to be
considered in this variety. Those
who have seen it say that JOAN
MARIE Jias “the perfect calyx.”

4. JOAN MARIE produces flowers
of excellent quality. The unusual
demand for them in the markets
and the prices paid for them show
without question that JOAN
MARIE is a quality carnation.

5. The flowers are borne on strong,
sturdy stems of unusual thickness,
and the leaves are much broader
than any carnation we have ever
seen. JOAN MARIE is not a
“grassy” grower.

6. JOAN MARIE’S excellent keep¬
ing qualities have accounted in no
small measure for its tremendous
popularity. Retail florists have
kept JOAN MARIE for as long as
three weeks and then used the
flowers at the end of that period.

7. JOAN MARIE is a wonderful
shipper. We have regularly ship¬
ped it during the entire season as
far north as the Canadian border
and as far south as Georgia with
excellent results.
