WE take pleasure in presenting our new 1934
catalog and, as heretofore, only the choicest
strains of the World’s leading Seed Specialists are
offered. Obviously, these producers ask higher prices
for such selected stocks, but nevertheless, our quota"
tions will be found to be consistent with this high
quality preferred by all discriminating growers. No
saving in seed costs can compensate for any lack in
the quality of plants produced, especially under exist"
ing conditions, when the planting of novelties and
strains of high merit is of primary importance in the
endeavor to secure better prices. Our stock is kept
right up"tO'the"minute on all new introductions, by
maintaining constant communication with seed grow"
ers, breeders and hybridizers all over the world, and
pledging ourselves to handle your business with a sin"
cerity of effort that will reflect in continued patron"
age, we are,

Yours very truly,

ASTERS

Super Giant Los Angeles. The first of a new race of Asters, which promises
to supercede all other strains for cut flower use. It is of the general
habit of the Giants of California, but earlier and much larger than any
of that type yet introduced. But, while the flowers are large, they are
most artistic, due to the unusual curling and interlacing of the petals,
giving a light feathery effect. The color is a pure shell-pink, strongei
stems than in the Giants of California, and unusually long, while no
disbudding is necessary due to the non-lateral habit.

Tr. Pkt., 50c; 3 Tr. Pkts., #1.25

German Dwarf Queen. Early class, excellent for pots, beds and borders.

CALCEOLARIA HYBRIDA

“Multiflora Nana”

A late German introduction of medium dwarf growth. Modern fashion
often prefers small and rich flowering plants to those with larger
blooms. Cineraria Multiflora Nana swept all before it and there is
no reason why Calceolaria Multiflora Nana should not do likewise.
The average size of the blooms is only 1-1/2 inches, but the amount
of flowers produced is unsurpassed. The color schemes are extra-
ordinarily gay and full of contrast. The yellow shades, lemon, gold,
orange, are adorned with fine brown spots. The brown, orange copper,
copper hrown, copper scarlet, crimson and scarlet shades are very
striking. An assorted group of these shades is most effective, while
a single specimen 10-12 inches high, makes an ideal market plant.

PETUNIAS

These offerings, produced by the World’s leading
Petunia Specialists, are worthy of most careful consider -
ation. Especially the Fringed, Ruffled and Double types,
which were matured under glass on pot grown plants by
hand pollenization. This insures purity of strain and true
reproduction of the parent plant, not otherwise so uni'
formly obtainable from field plantings. The slightly
higher cost of these strains is offset manyffold by the
high percentage of germination and beautiful specimen
plants obtained. Unsolicited letters of commendation con'
tinue to reach us from customers throughout the country
and we feel confident that a trial order will reflect in
your continued patronage.

ing of Gardening at Oranienburg-Luisenhof, Germany under the direc¬
tion of Dr. Boehnert) Originator’s description:

“The color of the blossoms is a vivid violet, indescribably beautiful
in the wintry sun. The yellow centers set off advantageous 'y from
the other part of the blossom petals. The form of the blossom is
also a remarkable one; it can be called a near approach to that of
the  Primula  Obconica.  Also,  the  long  and  thin  stems  have  vanished;
this strain producing thicker stems, ivhich lowers the position of
the large and extra fine blossom heads.”
