ALFALFA
More Alfalfa should be planted by the Southern
farmers, as it is said a ton of Alfalfa hay has the
same feeding value of a ton of shelled Corn. Alfalfa
in the South will produce from three to seven tons
of hay per acre and enriches the soil as well. If you
have not seeded your land in Alfalfa before, be sure
to inoculate your seed with Mulford Culture or Ni-
tragin before planting. Do not buy cheap seeds; if
the jprice is cheap, it is not pure and you will get a
mixture of weeds that may destroy your crop. Cheap
seed are high at any price. Buy the best. All our
Alfalfa seed is recleaned and the purity is over 99
per cent. Seed twenty pounds to the acre.

SEED CORN
Seed Com this season is very scarce. The Texas
crop was practically a failure and we had to spend
a lot of time in securing our seed. This seed is all
selected stock, hand shelled and nubbed in our modem
seed com plant. After shelling, this com is run over
our seed corn grader and all the small grains taken
out. We lose from 50 per cent to 60 per cent Com
in preparing our seed. You cannot buy better at
any price. Cheap seed is high at any price. Buy
from reliable parties.

COTTON SEED
(For planting)
The high price of Cotton this year has caused the
Southern farmer to plant more. Be sure to buy seed
that will give you the largest returns on your invest-
ment. Don’t buy cheap gin-run or oil mill seed.
Some unscrupulous dealers are selling this seed at
a cheap price. This grade of seed is high at any
price. Our seed is grown under our supervision and
favorable conditions. Plant it this year and make
more money on less land.
Our Mebane, Lone Star and Truitt cotton seed is
grown on contract here at Sherman under our su-
pervision. This seed is ginned, culled, sacked and
shipped by us. For that reason we know what we
ship you.
All our cotton fields are inspected by our cotton ex-
pert and all off-type stalks are pulled out, thus as-
suring you of a pure strain of cotton seed. This
seed is ginned under our supervision to prevent any
mix-ups at the gin and hauled from the gin to our
warehouse for culling and sacking.
Half & Half : Our Half & Half seed is only one year
from the originator. The growers from whom we
purchased this seed paid $5.00 per bushel last year
for them. The Cotton was ginned on a gin that did
not gin anything except Half & Half. For this reason
we think we have the best seed in Texas. This seed
lints from 45 to 48 percent with a staple of about
one inch. The bolls are medium sized and the field
turn out is good.
Boykin: This seed grown from elite seed purchased
from the originator. This seed was ginned separate-
ly and is pure. This cotton made some of the largest
yields in Grayson County this year. The bolls are
large, storm-proof, easy to pick and early. Lints
from 38 to 43 percent staple 1 1-16 strong.
Ferguson 406 Triumph: Handled the same way as
the Boykin. This is an early, big boll, storm-proof
variety. Lints from 38 to 45 percent, with a staple
of from 1 1-16 to 1 1-8 inches. Strong staple.
Mebane: We purchased our Mebane seed last year
direct from the Mebane Company at Lockhart, Texas.
We issued this seed to our growers to be grown
and delivered to us this fall. After our fields have
been rogued we have as pure a strain of Mebane as
can be purchased from any one. This seed gives
from 38 to 42 per cent lint turn out at the gin.
Staple from 1 1-16 to 1 1-8 inches with a strong
body.
Lone Star: This seed is handled in the same man-
ner as our Mebane. Lint turn out of from 36 per
cent to 40 per cent at the gin with extra strong
staple. This is the best quality of lint of any big
boll variety grown in the Southwest. Staple 1 1-16
to 1 1-4 inches.
Free Flower Seed With Every Seed Order.
29
Sherman Seed Co., Sherman, Texas
Truitt: This seed was purchased direct from
Truitt’s breeding1 blocks and issued to our growers.
Handled carefully and in the same manner as our
other seed. Lint turn out from 39 per cent to 42
per cent at the gin. Staple 1 .1-16 to 1 1-8 inches
with strong body. This cotton especially desirable
as the long tap root carries it through extra dry
seasons.
Big Boll Rowden: This seed is not grown by us,
but purchased from reliable shippers. We have
always bought our Rowden seed at Wills Point,
Texas, which is the Rowden center. Lint turn out
from 36 per cent to 38 per cent at the gin. Staple
1 1-16 to 1 1-4 inches with extra strong staple.
Kasch Strain: This seed grown from seed purchased
direct from Mr. Kasch last year. Early, large bolls,
large field yield and lints from 38 per cent to 42 per
cent, staple 1 1-16 to 1 1-8 inches.

SEED OATS
“Two Square Brand” Texas Red Rust Proof Oats:
This is an improved Texas Red Rust Proof Oat that
outyielded all others in Grayson County last year.
These Oats will give you better yields and make you
more dollars per acre. Remember, there is not any
extra labor cost to get this extra yield.
These Oats are treated with a formaldehyde solution
which practically eliminates the Rust and Smut. You
will save losses from these two diseases.
We double re-clean these Oats and take out all the
small Oats, dust, chaff, and other impurities. This
leaves only the large, plump grain for seed.
Early Fulghum Oats: A quick early maturing Oat
that matures from ten to fourteen days earlier than
the Texas Red Rust Proof Oats. Yields well and
the seed is extra heavy.
This Oat is also double recleaned and treated with
formaldehyde solution to reduce smut and rust.

Ferguson No. 71 Oats: Some of our customers want
these Oats and we purchased three thousand bushels
that were grown from pedigreed seed last year. We
had to pay a premium above the market to get them
and have double recleaned and treated them also.
They are extra nice and will please you.

A PERSONAL LETTER FROM
THE MANAGER
January 2nd, 1925
Dear Customer:
You may think it strange, that a firm of our
size, does not send you a large Catalog, full of
cuts and pictures of Flowers, Vegetables and
Plants. We started to have one printed, instead
of this small one, however, after much argument
decided against it. This decision, we thought,
would be for your benefit.
Perhaps you do not know what it would cost
us to mail all our customers a large, illustrated
catalog. Well, it would cost $3,500.00, whereas
the one we are mailing you only cost $1,250.00.
This means an actual saving to our customers
on our catalog alone of $ 2,250.00 . We are giv-
ing our customers the benefit of this saving, by
selling them QUALITY seeds at a cheaper
price than most Reliable Seedsmen are asking
for the same seed. This is only one of the sav-
ings we are making, to sell our customers BET-
TER seeds for LESS money.
We have decided to let our customers decide
the Catalog question for next year. Do you
want a large, illustrated catalog or another
small one? The majority will rule, so be sure
and send us your decision on this question. We
are here to serve you, and want you to tell us
your wants. Don’t forget to vote on this impor-
tant question, for we will not know your wants,
unless you tell us.
Wishing you the best of success during the
coming years, we remain,
Yours for better seeds,
Sherman Seed Company
