1953 - 1954 GLADIOLUS OFFERINGS 


We take pleasure in presenting our 1953-1954 catalog for you approval and consid- 
sration in which is listed nearly 100 varieties of Gladiolus covering a wide range of cclor 
‘and sizes. Priced in various quantities to best fit your needs. 

Loveland Glad Gardens, a division cf Kroh Nurseries, has supplied bulbs of choice varie- 
‘ties to many satisfied customers in this area and throughout the country. Varieties listed 
have been carefully selected for their beauty, vigor, and dependable performance. This list- 
- ing does not contain all the good glads of today but it does contain the proven superior older 
va fies as well as a few cf the best recent introductions. 

y’Glads are quite easily grown and are not exacting as to soil. For best results we sug- 
gest they be planted in rows 18 to 24 inches apart with about 3 large bulbs or 5 to 6 medium 
pu bs per lineal foot. Of most importance is to get good varieties and young vigorous bulbs. 


BUSINESS TERMS 
(PLEASE READ CAREFULLY) 

We aim to send out only healthy bulbs, guaranteed true to name, dusted for thrip, and 
will cheerfully refund the purchase price on any order found unsatisfactory upon receipt and 
promptly returned; but no guarantee of growth is implied in the sale (careless use of chem- 
| dips and sprays makes this) mandatory) nor will we be responsible for the crop. In no 
case will we break units quoted. All orders of $3.50 or more are prepaid in the U. S. A. 
Orders under $3.50 add 35c to cover packaging and postage. We will hold your order in 
storage for shiborent prior to planting season unless requested to mail earlier. 

EXTRAS: We give full count on bulbs and bulblets and to be absolutely sure, a few 
more on larger quantities. In addition, we include some extras on every retail order, larg- 
er orders, of course, receiving the larger percentage of bonus bulbs. But when we have 
to ship C. O. D. it costs us extra to make out tags, etc. so you receive more extras on orders 
ith remittance in full. 

r, REMITTANCE should accompany all orders; or a 25% deposit, balance C. O. D. COLO- 
FADO residents must add 2% for sales tax.

A cool, soft blushing pink that has a lot of sparkle. Recurved florets well placed on

BIG TOP (Rich ‘42). 

Really immense in size. Light pink with small carmine feather. Blooms have been

BUCKEYE BRONZE (Wilson ‘40). 
One of our most popular glads. A rusty, bronzy orange that is quite ruffled.

BURMA (Palmer ‘43). 


This is a deep ruffled, reddish rose that opens 6 to 8 florets on a straight spike. Very 
popular as a garden glad.

CAPTAIN KIDD (Roberts ‘50). 


A rich deep red. Not quite a black-red. A fine glad that stands up well in all kinds of 
weather. A tall grower with slightly frilled florets cf large size open on a 24 inch

CHIEF PONTIAC (Snyder ’48). 


Bright smooth orange scarlet, almost self color. Wéill grow to be six feet tall with 6

CHINOOK (Lines). 


Pure rich clear salmon. Grows nearly 6 ft. tall on an always straight stem. Opens 9 
6” florets with several more showing. Very attractive and stands out in any company.

COLUMBIA (Roberts) 


A 1951 introduction. Strikingly beautiful light cream with a bright rose border around 
ee petal.

CONNIE “G” (Wood ’48). 
This is an entrancingly beautiful clear cream, heavily ruffled and fluted. From small 
bulbs the stem below the flowerhead is sometimes a little short.

CRACKER JACK (Allen ‘46). 
Deep orange-yellow with 16 buds, 6 open with good texture.

Beautiful ruffled clear light yellow. Opens 4-6 well placed blooms on a tall plant. Very

DAISY MAE (Ruble). 


Beautiful orange. pink with cherry throat blotch. Tall strong husky grower that opens

DREAM CASTLE (Lins ‘43). 
Warm cool coral pink blending into a light cream throat. Opens about 8 ruffled floret 
4-inch florets.

ELIZABETH THE QUEEN (White ‘41). 
One that should be in every garden. A clear lavender with darker throat lines. Very 
ruffled.

ELMER’S ROSE (Fischer). 
Here is ancther fine rose colored glad that makes very fine spikes. Has a purple 
feather in the throat that adds to its beauty.

EVANGELINE (Paimer ‘48). 
One of the most vigorous and healthy varieties grown. A very fine light pink rose cast 
blending into a creamy throat. It opens up to 10 beautifully ruffled florets on a long 
heavy flower head. Has won itself quite a show record.

FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE (Harris ‘47). 
A fine ruffled clear white shading to light cream throat. A white that could easily 
win blue ribbons.

FLYING FORTRESS (Wilson ‘43). 
A huge lavender-gray with small red blotch. Florets immense in size and easily opens 
10 at a time. Grow this one for a thrill.
