PREFACE OF THE BOOK
1950's. Age of black and white photography. lt was then that I began to learn the secrets of photography. My first camera was the famous Kodak camera with the bellows and the large negative film . Gift of my father, old amateur photographer and my first teacher in the art of photography.
After the basic lessons of how to shoot with this camera, holding it downwards and looking through a prism, there came the moment of developing and printing the photos inside the dark room. I still keep, as a holy relic, the printing machine which was a simple wooden plaque with a glass, under which the negative ï¬lm was placed in contact with the white photographic paper. The work was done under a red light and when the whole setting was ready, we used a strong white light, just for 2 or 3 seconds. Then under the red light again, the white photo paper was put into a bowl, filled with a special chemical solution and âoops !â the picture was in front of us .. Magic moments !! and the photos were of good quality, because the negative film was quite large.
The years passed, I finished the Technical University and entered the race of life, but the love of photography was inside me, strengthened even more due to the new techniques of three-dimensional photography, in which I was later involved, but also due to the shooting films hobby, which was the second great experience in my life.
During the next fifty years, I shot more than ï¬ve thousand photos of all kinds, sceneries, snapshots from my travels around the world, family portraits, special events such as the Olympic Games of Athens 2004, which in fact I recorded using the 3-D technique, and so on. Besides, using the modern digital techniques, I dealt in the restoration of old photographs, as well as in converting photos to paintings and creating abstract compositions .. This is an area with unlimited possibilities ..
