Subject: Heartwarming
I read this book as a child more than 50 years ago. What a pleasure to stumble upon it again!
Poor Joe - abused by a cruel master - he is rescued when a young man hears his yelps (the master cut off his ears and tail in a fit of rage). He's taken home by the young man and welcomed into a new family of animal lovers.
This is a simple story - quickly read - with lessons sounding against cruelty to animals and the need to bring them up with discipline, manners, and kindness. Highly recommend.
