INTRODUCTION

This is a catalogue of type and referred specimens of fossil corals
in Field Museum of Natural History. Those prefixed by UC are on
permanent loan from the Walker Museum of Paleontology of the
University of Chicago. Others in Field Museum's collection are dis-
tinguished by the prefix P or PE. Artificial casts of types are included,
when possible with the depository and catalogue number of the
original specimen.

Consistent with previous catalogues, only holotypes are recog-
nized as valid types. When the holotype was designated by other
than the original author it is so indicated. It is also noted when
Field Museum holds the original material, (the "cotypes"), upon
which the species has been based but when no holotype has been
chosen. Any other so-called types are listed as Referred Specimens.

Entries are made in their initially published form and are ordered
alphabetically by genera, then by species within the genus. An at-
tempt is made to note all subsequent published name changes. When
the change was made but without the use of Field Museum speci-
mens, this information is given in the "Remarks." Each entry also
includes the stratigraphic position and locality as found in the
Museum files, supplemented by the authors' publications. When
available, the collection or collector's name is given. The missing
specimens are not noted.
