Grapes on the -cAmerican Continent
CONCORD represents the dominent type of our
native species. In New York State approximately
seventy-five per cent of all the grapes grown are Con-
cords. This fine old grape needs no introduction or
description. Every one knows and prizes it. It has
always been a favorite and always will be. Many
newer varieties have been introduced and their merits
acclaimed from the housetops, but Concord still holds
the place of honor. It has been well tried and never
found wanting. Its elasticity of constitution adapts
itself to all soils and conditions and enables it to yield
a large crop year after year.
NIAGARA is the leading American green grape, holding the
rank among green grapes that Concord holds among the black
varieties. In vigor and productiveness they are unsurpassed by
any others. In size of bunch and berry, Niagara will average fully
up to Concord and like it has that peculiar musky flavor so appeal-
ing to most tastes and which is retained a long time after being
gathered; in fact, it seems to improve with age and the aroma
from a dish of Niagaras will fill a room with its appetizing odor and
is equal to a vase of tea roses. Ripens with Concord and like it is
a leading market variety and most profitable sort of its color.

Excellent Grapes of Known Worth
ERY
HE Grape is as old as the creation of man and in all proba-
bility much older. The oldest accounts of civilization des-
cribe it and it has always had first place among fruits.
It is found in all parts of the world, in all soils and all climates.
Its health-giving qualities as a fruit and as a beverage are pre-eminent
and universally extolled. It is the one subject on which there is no
divergence of opinion. They may be grown on a fence or side of a
building and other places where it would be impossible to grow a
tree, and their yield of luscious fruit 1s prodigious. No yard is too
small to afford space for two or more vines and no other such trifling
investment will yield such splendid returns.
BRIGHTON
This is one of the leading red grapes, noted for its high quality, good
appearance, large size of bunch and berry, certainty of ripening, being earlier
than Concord, vigorous growth, productiveness, adaptability to various soils
and ability to withstand disease. It is not recommended for shipping, but for
home use it has no superior.
MOORE’S EARLY
The leading black grape of its season and may be described as an Early
Concord, as it is much like this famous variety in every way except it is from
two to three weeks earlier. To get best results, should have a rich, loose, wel
drained soil. Undoubtedly the best early black grape.
