William Young and John, bis brother, who married Elizabeth Elder, were
sons of William Young and Mary White. Wililam Young lived in Lurgan township,
Franklin County, Pa., in 1753. His other children were Elizabeth, married John
McConnell; Margaret, married Andrew Hemphill, and Gilsey married Daniel
Slaymaker.
The Youngs were Scotch. They were wealthy land owners in the north of
Ireland, whence they came to America, and settled in Maryland. They removed to
Mercer county, Pa., about 1800. They were slave owners, and their slaves, Bob and
Peg, are buried at Neshannock Cemetery. They are said to have been baronets.
They were involved in the Roman Catholic persecutions, and came to America to es-
cape them. They were Presbyterians in their faith.

William Elder was an Ensign, first company, first battallion, Cumberland
county, Pa., militia, 31 July, 1777.
Sarah Abraham was the daughter of Noah Abraham. He was Captain of
two companies in the Revolutionary War. First. 31 July, 1777, Pennsylvania Arch-
ives, Vol. XIV, pages 417-418 This company seems to have been unattached. Sec-

Mary Alexander was a descendant of one of the Vikings who secttied in Weet-
ern Sootland about A. D. 1125S. The first of thie branch, possiby of the name, to
come to America was KRanald. He went over into Ireland. and at Lomdoaderry mar-
ried Mise Margaret McClellan, about 176 of S), and came to Arcrica immediately,
and settled in Cumberiand, now Franklin county, Pa. They had five children, of
whom James and Kobert were privates in Capt. Abraham's Company. William, the
youngest son, married Ann Moore about 1787. They had cleven children of whom
Mary wasthe afb.
Margaret Y. McCartney was the daughter of William McCartney and Annic
Walice, a descendant of the celebrated Scotch family of that same.

Julia A. Suloff; or Soulouff, was the daughter of Henry Suloff and Elizabeth
Aughey. The Suloffs came from Holland. Elizabeth Aughey descended from
Ache ‘ager, of Normandy, France, who was one of the slain in the St. Bartholemew's
massacre, The mother with three sons escaped to Switzerland, where they- remained
wotil the death of the mother, when the three sons came to America, landing at
Philadelphia, where they took an oath of allegience to the British crown. The
Aches were ot the nobility, and had a coat of arms—a la fasce d’arg, de trois curs-
sous d'or, The oldest son, John Ludwig Ache, was the first Professor of modern
languages in the University of Pennsylvania.

I have the record measurably complete of Abraham's (3) family, furnished by
his great-grand son Robert George Elder, Esq., of Cripple Creek, Colo., but have
not attempted to trace the other families, but have given this as a base from which
some one may take up the work.
NOTICE
These records are necessarily imperfect, because so many have failed to fur-
nish their record, because of omissions, and because, being furnished by so many
different persons there are unavoidable discrepancies. Then there are a few ty-
pographical errors, almost impossible to avoid in a composition of this kind.
It would be very interesting and desirable to have this record perfect and
complete. And it is now m) purpose to print a supplement which will make all
corrections, and supply all omissions, (and I would call particular attention to
omissions in military service of cither the civil war, or the Spanish American war)
if there is sufficient interest manifested in sending them in.
No attempt has been made at a biographical sketch of these persons. This
work may serve as the basis for a more pretentious work, in which biographical
sketches may be given of those persons who have anything interesting or important
in their lives. They should include parentage, place of birth, education, business,
religion, and offices of trust, or honor in church or state.
I will be glad to act as depository for information. And, if the results war-
rant it, print it, or turn it over to some other person.
