DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE
A few years before I came to college,
I'd had a conversation with my father about a
number of things in our lives that were changing.
The actual topics of the conversation are
unimportant right now, but some of the advice
me:
“Never settle.”
m's quest is one that I think anyone
can identify with: to find complete and ultimate
fulfillment, and to live a life of extraordinary
events and experiences. No one ever lives or dreams with the
intention of compromising their aspirations, or immediately
accepting that their lives will turn out to be anything less than they
planned. Yet, ultimately, we have no choice but to give in, and
accept that nothing will ever be enough. We can look for a thousand
lifetimes, searching the world and the stars, always trying to find that
one completely fulfilling moment, but it is a search that is doomed
from the start. Not necessarily an optimistic worldview, but a
realistic one, even for a guy who was told to “never settle.”
Luckily, with this cast and crew, I haven't had to.
I've had my pick of some of the most talented students at
Rutgers for our players. Every member of the production crew has
put every part of themselves into this, and the combination of a
talented and dedicated cast and a fantastic crew culminates in what
you will see tonight.
Sometimes, we all need to compromise. But only sometimes.
Sincerely,
Ivan Rushfield

PRODUCERS’ MESSAGE
Greetings Theatergoers!
On behalf of the Livingston Theatre Company, we would
like to welcome you to inaugural show of our 2003-2004 Season,
Stephen Schwartz's “Pippin!” This show has long been anticipated
by members of the company as well as by our patrons, and we
don't intend to disappoint!
Opening in 1972 at the Imperial Theatre, before moving to
the Minskoff in 1977 towards the end of its run, “Pippin” was
actually the first full musical by Stephen Schwartz (of “Godspell”
fame), having only previously written a song called “Butterflies are
Free” for a comedy of the same name. With a book by Roger O.
Hirson and directed by the legendary Bob Fosse (whose
choreography set the standard for every production that came
afterward), the Tony- A ward-winning production featured such
talents as Ben Vereen (who won the “Best Actor” Tony for his
portrayal of “the Leading Player”), John Rubinstein, who played
Pippin, and Irene Ryan as Berthe (who was nominated for a “Best
Featured Actress” Tony, and was best known as “Granny” from
the television series “The Beverly Hillbillies”). In all, the show was
nominated for eleven Tony Awards and took home five, including
two for Fosse: one for his direction, and another for his
choreography.
We hope that you enjoy this long-awaited production of
“Pippin,” and we would especially like to invite you to join us for
our next production, the Cole Porter's classic 1 948 treatment of
Shakespeare's “The Taming of the Shrew,” “Kiss Me, Kate,” which
opens November 20th and runs through the 23rd.
Take care, and “join us!”

(Rev Shaw), and “The Scarlet Pimpernel”
(Chauvelin), as well as conducted the orchestra
for ’’Something's Afoot” and “The Will Rogers
Follies,” where he also was the musical director.
Tim is very active on campus as a representative
on the LCGA as well as a manager of the LSC.
Tim is very proud of all LTC members
participating in this show. Keep up the Good
Work!
BRAD RESNICK (PRODUCTION
MANAGER) is a Mason Gross junior
majoring in film and photography. Despite the
long distance he must travel from Cook, this is
his seventh show with the company and fifth
on the executive board. He hopes to continue
helping LTC achieve bigger and better things.
DAVID OSMER (ADMINISTRATIVE
MANAGER) started his stage career in high
school and has been active ever since. Last year
he took to the LTC stage as Dr. Grayburn in
“Something's Afoot” and Mercier in “The
Scarlet Pimpernel.” Last semester he took part
behind the scenes as the LTC Production
Assistant, played in the pit for “The Will Rogers
Follies,” and was the Assistant Director of
“Evita.” This semester he is directing “Kiss Me,
Kate.”
