Dear Member of Las Voluntarias:

Fall is fast approaching and we hasten to send you an invitation to attend
our Training Program which is a requisite for active membership in our official hostess
group for the Arboretum Historical Center. The Charter Members have now completed
eight successful and exciting months of service to the Arboretum and we look forward
to the time when you will join one of our three sub=groups to: 1) give guided tours
of the Historical Section to school groups; 2) catalog and repair the historical posses~
sions; 3) fix fresh bouquets and clean the Queen Anne Cottage and Hugo Reid Adobe
every week to delight the eyes of visitors.

The Training Program will be held the five Monday mornings of October from
9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon and there will be luncheon meetings the first two Mondays
in November. All October meetings will be held at the Arboretum. On November
sixth we will make a field trip to the Adobe de Palomares in Pomona for a tour and
picnic lunch with the Curator. The final meeting, November thirteenth, will be a
festive luncheon at the Arboretum given by the old members of Las Voluntarias for
new members and representative members of the Arboretum staff with whom we work
throughout the year.

The course will cover all sections of the Arboretum with particular emphasis
on the Historical Section. Anyone wishing to linger after class for lunch and further
discussion in the Peacock Pavilion will be very welcome. Many of the Charter Members
have elected to take this second training program with you.

If you wish to join us and take the Training Program, please contact the Mem~
bership Chairman of Las Voluntarias (c/o California Arboretum Foundation, 301 North
Baldwin Avenue, Arcadia, California 91006) by September 15. Looking forward to
seeing you in October.
