Vorwort.

R. Schlechter hat eine groBe Anzahl sorgfaltig ausgefuhrter
Analysen von Orchideenbliiten hinterlassen, die sich jetzt mit
seinem rund sechzigtausend Spannbogen umfassenden Orchideenherbar
im Botanischen Museum Dahlem befinden. Derartige Zeichnungen
hat er zu allen von ihm beschriebenen neuen Arten und zu vielen
anderen angefertigt; die Gesamtzahl der vorhandenen Analysen diirfte sich
nach vorsichtiger Schatzung auf uber achttausend belaufen. Veroffent-
licht worden ist von ihnen nur ein relativ kleinerTeil, im Zusammenhang
nur die Analysen der „ Orchidaceen von Deutsch-Neu-Guinea“
(Rep. Beih. XXI) und die der «Orchidaceen Europas und des
Mediterrangebietes“; (Rep. Beih. A); weitere finden sich verstreut
an verschiedenen Stellen, besonders in der Orchis.

Mit Genehmigung des Generaldirektors des Botanischen Gartens
und Museums Berlin-Dahlem, Herrn Prof. Dr. L. Diels, habe ich in dem
vorliegenden Bande, der etwa 140 Tafeln umfassen wird, ais Erganzung
zu den „ Orchideenfloren der siidamerikanischen Kordilleren-
staaten" die Analysen der darin beschriebenen neuen Arten zu-
sammengestellt, wie das auch die Absicht Schlechters war. Einige
wenige nicht ganz vollendete Zeichnungen sind erganzt worden. Die
Anordnung der Arten ist dieselbe wie die der Beschreibungen, beginnend
mit Venezuela und endend mit Bolivien. Da aus technischen Griinden
diese Reihenfolge nicht immer genau innegehalten werden konnte,
wird am SchluB ein Register gegeben werden.
