IS OUR BEST ADVERTISEMENT
VERY year our wholesale department makes a substantial increase in
BRB sales over previous high marks. In fact, our total sales are increas-
ing more rapidly than our list of customers, which proves conclusively
that the average customer is sending us-larger and larger orders every year.
This is, in itself, a record of which we are naturally proud, because this stead-
ily increasing business is due to the confidence and good will of the many
seed dealers and florists who send us their orders. We shall strive to the ut-
most of our ability to carefully sustain this reputation by furnishing the best
quality seed and bulbs we are able to obtain. We realize that our entire suc-
cess is wrapped up in the success of our customers. Hence, every business in-
stinct prompts us to work for their welfare. We aim to test every stock,
whether grown on our own farms or coming to us from other seed growers.
We use every precaution to see that our wholesale customers get just as good
stocks as we furnish to our best market garden trade.
Our own seed growing operations have expanded astonishingly in the last
few years, so that we grow more acres of a general line of flowers than any
other concern in America except in California. We are specializing, also, on a
number of kinds of vegetable seeds for which there is an increasing demand in
the trade.
It is getting extremely difficult to get good stocks from abroad. But a great
many offers come from unreliable sources which we do not dare accept. All of
our imported stock comes from the same firms with whom we have had deal-
ings for many years. Because of abnormal conditions, a good many varieties of
flower seeds cost us a great deal more than formerly. We have left our prices
just as low as conditions will permit. We are ccrtain, however, that in the
long run the best is always the cheapest.
We especially urge our customers to send in their orders early, and not wait
until the goods are wanted. While we make it a rule to fill every order the
day of its arrival, the rush of late orders makes this work difficult. If our
customers send for their seeds early, they will give us the opportunity to han-
dle all of our trade easily, quickly and satisfactorily.
Finally, we extend to our numerous friends and customers cordial personal
greetings, and hope that this season may be profitable and satisfactory in every
way. anh

Vick’s improved strain of Danish Ballhead Cabbage has given the great-
est satisfaction ever since its introduction.
Many of the leading cabbage
growers have used ourseed for years and pronounce it much superior to
any other strain in productiveness, solidity and long keeping qualities.
6 VICK’S WHOLESALE PRICE LIST
Vick’s Improved Danish Ballhead Cabbage
Of the many varieties of Cabbage introduced within the past few years none have
attained a greater popularity, or given such general satisfaction as Vick’s Improved
Danish Ballhead. The fame of this particular strain has become world wide. It
commands a higher price in the market than any other variety. It is remarkable
for the solidity of its head and long keeping qualities. The heads are of medium
size, with few outer leaves, admitting of close planting; exceedingly fine-grained,
hardiest of all, tender, crisp, solid, with no waste heart. Will average six pounds
per head. Our stock comes direct from the best growers in Denmark.

Vick’s Golden Dwarf Self-Blanching Celery
Here in Rochester we are located in the heart of one of the most famous celery
growing regions in the country. It is not an uncommon thing for a single grower te
ship from ten to twenty carloads of celery to New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburg and
other celery markets. The leading growers pronounce our Golden Dwarf Self-
Blanching to be superior to all other strains of this variety, in quality, yield and
salability. Dwarf, stocky, compact, rich golden yellow. Solid, tender, crisp, and
of exquisite flavor.

Vick’s Golden Nugget Corn. This extra fine variety was introduced by us in
1892. It is now the largest selling variety we catalogue, and steadily growing in pop-
ularity with our customers. Ears are twelve rowed, large and handsome. The color
is a rich creamy yellow. In flavor it is unusually sweet and delicious. As a vari-
ety it is one of the most productive, frequently having from two to four ears to the
stalk. In season follows a few days after the early varieties. Ears larger and
more prolific than Golden Bantam, tender amd unusually sweet. Ready for
market only a few days after the earliest.
CORN—SWEET or SUGAR.
Sweet Corn, if exposed to a low temperature in transit, even after being thoroughly
cured, will gather more or less moisture and sometimes spoil. To avoid this the corn
should be examined as soon as received and if necessary spread outina dry place.
Reports indicate the most disastrous crop shortage of Sweet Corn on record.
While our own farm grown stocks are better than the reported average, due to ex-
traordinary care and enormous expense, our stocks are inadequate for our regular
catalogue trade. To quote the following low prices, therefore, proves our desire to
share our limited supply with our regular trade for the greatest good of all. These
prices are subject to withdrawal or change at any moment without previous notice.

Vick’s Perfection White Spine
Unrivaled in shape, size, color and productiveness. Without doubt White Spine
and Long Green Cucumbers have larger sales than any other varieties. Now, there
isa good deal of difference in the quality of the various kinds of seed sold under
the above names. Our strains of these varieties have been carefully developed
through selections from year to year, until in our estimation the fruit from our seed
surpasses both in quality and yield any other strains.

VICK’S IRONDEQUOIT MUSKMELON
Without doubt the finest Muskmelon ever grown, either for commercial purposes
or for gardens. The flesh is a beautiful dark orange, skin is finely netted, yellow
when ripe, possessing a most attractive appearance. The fruit is large ; the flavor is
delicious, sweet, rich and spicy. Every ounce of seed we offer comes from melons —
grown under our own supervision, and theseed stock selected by the most experienced
men weemploy. This melon holds the Rochester market to the practical exclusion
of all other varieties. Moreover, whenever Vick’s Irondequoit Muskmelon is offered

Vick’s Early Scarlet Globe Radish
As a forcing Radish Vick’s Early Scarlet Globe has established a reputation as the
leading sort—the best in every way. It is handsome in form and color—a beautiful
oval and rich scarlet. The amount of its foliage is small compared with other vari-
eties, and small for the size of the Radish. The peculiar merit of this variety asa
forcing Radish is that it will bear the heat requisite for forcing without becoming
pithy or spongy. The flesh is crisp, tender, juicy and mild. It is equally as good
for open garden culture as for forcing, and therefore it commends itself equally to the
amateur and the market gardener. The dealer who sells this stock sells the best.
Our sales of this variety are rapidly increasing every year.

VICK’S FLOWER SEEDS
HE flower seeds we offer are grown largely upon our own farms; others we have
grown for us on contract and under our personal supervision by the very best
specialists both at home and abroad; and in climates and soils best adapted for each
particular variety. The seeds used in mixtures are selected from flowers the
brightest in color and most perfect in form and can be relied upon for purity
and vitality.
VICK’S FAMOUS ASTERS
The Aster is now the most important, commercially, of the summer and autumn
flowers, and we are very proud of the part we have taken in its development. We
are now the largest growers in the world of high grade Aster Seed, and we have
introduced more good varieties than all other American seedmen combined.
For the benefit of Florists and others especially interested in Asters we issue a
Florists’ Aster Book giving illustrations of all the leading varieties. The handsomest
work of its kind ever published. Free.

Vick’s Extra Early.
Earliest of all. Is a new strain developed by us, selected
especially for earliness and size of bloom. Plants grown from
seed sown in the open ground in May, on our own farm, begins
to bloom in July and continues to bloom until frost. The plants
are about three feet in height. Flowers are as large and fully as
beautiful as the best late flowering kinds.

WEET WILLIAM, HOLBORN GLORY
We grow large quantities of Sweet William on our farms, saving the seed from
the most perfect type of plants. The strain we offer is superior to much of the stock
imported-from Europe.
FACTS ABOUT GRASS SEED MIXTURES
The most essential thing in making a lawn is good seed. On ordinary soil, well
fertilized with either pulverized sheep manure or stable litter, and with proper
moisture, good seed will grow. The price of lawn grass seed varies greatly accord-
ing to quality: The cheap seed offered consists mostly of chaff, and if used, the
planter will find his grass coming up in patches or very thin. If good seed is
planted it will come up thick and make a good permanent lawn. Our lawn mix-
tures are composed of the very highest grades of grasses, free from all weeds and
other impurities. Almost every seed in a bushel of twenty pounds will grow. Do
not be humbugged with cheap seed; buy the best and have a lawn that will last
indefinitely and be a permanent pleasure to you. .

New Early-Flowering Long- Season
Spencer Sweet Peas
Immense waved orchid-like flowers on long stems that bloom four
weeks earlier than the late Spencers, and continue to blossom for four
months. For forcing or open-ground culture.
Early Morning Star. Deep orange-scarlet or flame color in standard with rich
orange-pink wings. It doesnot burn in the open, and under glass will be mag-
nificent. The flowers are large and of best Spencer form, and are borne in threes
and fours in wonderful profusion. Packet of 15 seeds, 20 cents.
Early Song Bird. We are sure this will be the early pale pink for florists. - The
)
flower is the same color as the ‘‘ Florence Morse Spencer,” and has the same ex-
cellent form and features of “« Mrs. Hugh Dickson,” but is on white ground. The
placement of the flowers is splendid for packing, and the flowers are borne on
long stems in threes and fours. Packet of 25 seeds, 20 cents.
Early Melody. Deeper shade of pink than “ Early Song Bird,’ on white
ground, closely resembling ‘‘Countess Spencer’’ and near “ Hercules.’’ Can be
described as rose pink on white ground. Four large well-waved flowers are
borne on nearly every stem. Packet of 25 seeds, 20 cents.
Early Spring Maid. The color is light pink on cream ground, and blossoms
have the same splendid characteristics as ‘‘ Mrs. Hugh Dickson.” There is no
Early Spencer cream-pink as attractive as ‘“‘ Early Spring Maid.”
Packet of 25 seeds, 20 cents.
Early Snow Flake. Pure white. This is the best Early-Flowering Spencer we
have seen. The blossoms are very large and of the best waved Spencer form.
The flowers are borne in wonderful profusion on long stems. This will be in
great demand by all who grow for market. Packet of 15 seeds, 20 cents.
Early Heather Bell. This will be one of the most popular shades with all flor-
ists, as it will be so useful in making up for any occasion. Flowers are very large,
borne in fours and threes on stout stems. Color is a rich, pleasing mauve.
After standing in water becomes mauve lavender.
Packet of 25 seeds, 20 cents.

Elizabeth Dunbar. The New White Salvia.
Elizabeth Dunbar appeared as a chance seedling 1n the Rochester Parks in IgIo.
Since its first appearance it has been much improved from the original plant. The
corolla is pure white and the calyx cream white. The flower spikes are from six
to eight inches long. The individual flowers are one and three-fourths inches
long. The plants grow about two and one-half feet in height. It flowers freely
and blossoms abundantly throughout the summer, and comes true to seed. Potted
plants produce a profusion of flowers in the greenhouse in winter.

FERTILIZERS
PULVERIZED SHEEP MANURE
CONVENIENT. Being thoroughly dried and finely ground. Pulverized Sheep
Manure is in a convenient form for use on the lawn, in the garden, in the green-
house, or for potting soil. Most of the weight has been removed in drying.
NATURAL. A pure animal fertilizer, dried and pulverized. No chemical change
or loss of plant food occurs in drying and grinding. Adds organic matter to
the soil by nature’s own method.
INOFFENSIVE. Unequalled for the lawn. In effect it is a top dressing of stable
manure, without any unsightly appearance or offensive odor.
NO RISK. Contains no acids or chemicals to burn the sprouting seeds or roots of
plants. May safely be used wherever stable manure would be desirable, and
without inconvenience or discomfort.
The most satisfactory fertilizer for lawns.
We have used Pulverized Sheep Manure on our own farm quite extensively for
Field Crops, with excellent results. For this purpose we use a grain drill as for
commercial fertilizers.
In the Garden Pulverized Sheep Manure is convenient; it furnishes plant
food in the best form for growing plants of all kinds; and it adds organic matter or
humus, to the soil, thus keeping it in a good mechanical condition. Commercial
fertilizers cause the soil in time to become hard and dry.
