Ahead of its time, and still relevant
My mother picked up a used copy of this book at a sale in the 1970s. It was how I learned about many of the important events and personalities related to women in the U.S. I first read the awful story of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire here, and I learned about Marian Anderson's triumph following the DAR's refusal to allow her to perform at its Constitution Hall. In addition to these well-known stories, the book also includes examinations of sports, fashion, performing artists, and home life. It's chock full of photos of women both famous and anonymous.
