This book is dedicated to John Braham Esq. an Englishman who was the major tenor in Europe for over 60 years in the 18th and 19th century - born 1774, came to prominence as a child singer in 1787 singing Covent Garden and died in 1856 having last sung publicly in 1852 aged 78. John Braham is considered to have been one of the greatest tenors who ever lived and particularly admired for his perfection in the use of the falsetto. He was married to a singer of renown at that time and performed with her throughout Europe - Anna Selina Nancy Storace. They had two children - William Spencer Harris Braham was born on May 3, 1802 and in 1821 Frances Elizabeth Anne Braham was born. She was later to become Lady Waldegrave.

Given the front piece dedication and references in the subtitle text of several pieces written as if John Braham was alive, the possibility exists that this book was published in John's heyday in publicity and wealth circa 1830s when he purchased and built the " St James Theater" in London.
