Subject: why German?
It's true, we got the language info from the WorldCat page for this book (http://www.worldcat.org/wcpa/oclc/6997865), which does indicate German. I also checked the MARC record in the catalog at Univ. of Michigan (where the book was scanned), and that record, too, indicates German. So this is a longstanding catalog error. I'll manually reset the language codes for our copy and reprocess the book, but it may get set back at some point, if we should pick up a catalog record from an external source with the same old error in it.
About the scanning issues, note that the book was scanned by Google, so we have no control over the original images.

Thank you for pointing out the error. We got the language by probing worldcat, but something has gone wrong. We will look into it.

The book is not in German, but is an edition of several texts in ancient Greek, with ancillary materials in Latin.
In addition, while the PDF version is generally usable, there are a few scanning issues: on pp. 440-1 of the book / 501-2 of the PDF, it appears that the scanner's hand has intruded, affecting the lower part of the notes; while between pp. 513 and 514 of the book / 572 and 575 of the PDF, there are again scanning issues, however, the affected pages seem to be duplicated, so nothing is actually lost.
