Holograph, signed
Title devised by cataloger
On verso, the delivery address is "Rev. Amos A. Phelps, Hallowell, Maine." It was postmarked on Sep. 9 in Whitestown, N.Y
Beriah Green writes to Amos A. Phelps that he is sending him a pamphlet about the condition and prospects of the Oneida Institute. Mentioning his plan to visit Boston, which was aborted due to an illness, he expresses his desire to meet his friends in Boston and discuss their plan for a manual labor school for the black. He thinks it would be better if they pledge patronage to an existing institution than setting up a separate one. He described the financial difficulties he is having for his own endeavor
