Logbook of a whaling voyage to the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. Includes descriptions of whales seen or taken, accidents at sea, punishment, and women and children at sea. Also contains whale stamps, profile views, amount of sperm oil stored down, oil and bone sold on the voyage, and provisions used. A whaleboat was stove on March 4, 1861. The master's wife gave birth to a girl at Mauritius on March 25, 1861. One man fell overboard and drowned on September 9, 1861. One man fell overboard on 25 February 1862 but was saved. In April 1862 as the ship was approaching Mauritius, but they found the island was in the midst of a cholera outbreak, so they kept sailing towards Bourbon. One man fell and injured himself badly on May 20, 1862. One man was injured cutting in a whale on July 21, 1862. A whaleboat was stove by a whale on September 26, 1862. One man was put in irons after fighting with the Mate on November 6, 1863. Whaling grounds include the Western, Steen, East Cape, Crozet, and Tonga grounds.; Old Dartmouth Historical Society (ODHS 541); Whaling vessel out of Fairhaven, Mass. mastered by Elisha Babcock, Jr., on voyage 16 May 1860 - 16 May 1864; managing agent, Jenney & Tripp; built in Mattapoisett, Mass., 1840.
