FTP downloads are not included in that number.

For example, David Lauzon's "browse by date" list
http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=%28collection%3ADavidLauzon%20OR%20mediatype%3ADavidLauzon%29%20AND%20-mediatype%3Acollection&sort=%2Fmetadata%2Fdate
currnently shows 1,974 downloads for his 2006-08-12 show, but that show's page
http://www.archive.org/details/dlauzon2006-08-12.oktava.shnf
says it's been download 2,060 times. Why are the counts different? (I've noticed this for a lot of other shows, too.)
(This isn't a big deal, it's just that this is either the most or second-most downloaded show I've uploaded, and I've been tracking its milestones [250 downloads, 500 downloads, 1,000 downloads, etc.], and I'm not sure whether I've passed the 2,000 mark or not.)
Aloha,
Brad

Actually, we changed the system from the one brad just described to one that analyzes the apache logs once a day and updates a database of downloads. So if a mp3 is accessed through the flash player or via http download it would count as a download.
this will mean that the download counts will go up faster than before for those shows that are accessed without going to the webpage.
duplicates of different kinds are filtered so that one person downloading materials from one item are only counted once.

in a way that is not "shown to them" like it is
in the upper left corner of the details page.
so for example, if one simply visits this page:
http://www.archive.org/details/GrowingYounger
the upper left image view doesn't count as a download.
however, if one uses the flash player to listen to the music, then it will count as a download.

use option "--ti JPEG" with a JPEG that is 128K or less
and that should do it!
(that's what we do for our forthcoming LP (record) digitized items...)

Is it possible to differentiate how many people download the files from a link out of this site? Or do you have an idea how approximately the percentage of people who come through outside links?

If you look at our podcast episodes in the search URL below, you'll see that there are no download counts for all episodes since episode #32. WHY?
http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=%22PMlessonsLearned.com%22&sort=-publicdate
Can you fix this?
