I ended up finding a solution... i downloaded foobar2000, which has good support for lots of different formats. There is a 3rd party component available for it, called "live show tagger" through foosion's component page. It works great most of the time for both flac and mp3 formatted files (it wouldn't work for some stuff i had as aac and apple lossless - the apple lossless i was able to convert to flac using dbpoweramp then use live show tagger). Anyway as long as the text files were formatted appropriately, which most of them were, it filled in the metadata automatically based on the text file. I had to do a couple of edits but for the most part it worked perfect.

I still think I'm missing something though...like there should be an easier way to do this. For instance, i never have figured out what the XML metadata files are for... Is there some software that converts the XML files into metadata tags for the flacs?
