Many of you who watch your download counts will notice that they have changed and likely been reduced in the last few days. This is due to the discovery and fix of a bug in the download tabulation.

One of the formats that is typically derived in an item is a gif. It appears next to the item name and description in search results. Each time it has appeared since January 2012 it has mistakenly been counted as a download.

This was not intentional and the bug was only recently discovered and fixed. The download count reduction is the result of removing the downloads attributed to occasions when the gif appeared in search results.

Our apologies.

May I ask what exactly is counted as one download?
I guess 1 file == 1 download no matter if it is one song or one zip file, right?
What about listening to a stream consisting of 15 songs?

One download/view/stream, per fileset, per IP, per day. In other words, if you click every file on one page from your home computer, that counts as one download for that fileset. Come back and do the same thing tomorrow, that's one more download. If you click the same file from your home computer, your work computer and your phone, that's three downloads.

Thanks for this clarification.
What is meant with "view"? Viewing just the page?

No, sorry...wasn't clear there. Viewing an image - actually clicking through to view it (like a poster, ticket stub, etc.) rather than just having it appear on the page.

That makes sense, and it's also .jpg's if you upload pictures with your recordings (like I do). Where I noticed it was on a show that went from 64,000 downloads to 7,000 downloads, so apparently the page was viewed 64,000 times but the show was only downloaded 7,000 times, correct?
