Subject: Nice overview of baroque German architecture
Subject: Nice overview of baroque German architecture
I can't really read this book, but I'm giving it four stars for the 164 lovely pen-and-ink (or possibly drypoint or some other art-printing method) illustrations. When the book came out, the author probably had no idea that these pictures would become more valuable, but I'm sure at least some of what they capture was damaged or destroyed by subsequent wars.
The text covers various substyles of baroque and rococo (e.g., "Hugenot-style," and "Jesuit-style"), and discusses buildings in different cities of Germany, as well as a few places in Austria and the (now) Czech Republic.
