Monte's Occupy Wall Street Journal
“Occupy Wall Street” has blossomed from a national movement into a global one. According to the Occupy Wall Street website, the movement has emerged from a climate of outrage over perceived economic injustices. It is taking inspiration from recent social protests in the Middle East, a.k.a. "The Arab Spring". "We Are The 99 per cent that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1 per cent," say the Occupy Wall Street protesters. This grassroots protest started on Wall Street, but is now spreading far and wide among folks who just can't take it anymore.
“Occupy Wall Street is a leaderless resistance movement with people of many colors, genders and political persuasions,” reads a statement on their website. “The one thing we all have in common is that we are the 99 percent that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1 percent,” the statement says. “We are using the revolutionary Arab Spring tactic to achieve our ends and encourage the use of nonviolence to maximize the safety of all participants.”
Richard Wolff says, "For 50 years, it has been unacceptable politically in the United States to ask what is basically a straightforward question. We have a particular economic system. It’s called capitalism. We have every right as a society to ask of that system, is it working? Is it working for us? Do the benefits and the costs balance themselves out in a way that says we want to keep the system, or that says we want to change the system, or that says we ought to look for an alternative system? We’ve been afraid to ask that question. We’ve been afraid to have public debates. That’s the legacy of the Cold War. We can’t afford anymore to not do that." (The Occupy Wall Street movement) "gives a strong impetus to asking those questions. And that doesn’t mean accepting the alternatives of the past. The old efforts of going beyond capitalism had strength, but they also had horrible weaknesses. We will learn from that, as human beings always have. And we can forge a country out of an opening of the debate about this economic system. And I want to be part of that, and I think the American people are ready and interested in doing it, as well. We have to raise these questions." — from the Richard Wolff interview on Democracy Now newshour, July 28, 2011 Richard Wolff is Emeritus Professor of Economics at University of Massachusetts Amherst and author of several books, including "Capitalism Hits the Fan: The Global Economic Meltdown and What to Do About It."
the Occupy Wall Street movement is coming to a City near You!
Journalists, political analysts, and social scientists are wondering if this sort of social unrest is a sign of a new political movement emerging on the American landscape. The movement was sparked by individuals who believe the excessive political pull of big banks and the financial sector are destroying the middle class. The Occupy Wall Street movement has also attracted the attention and support of trade unions and organized labor.

hey Rasta... OWS is a neutral movement that is growing. OWS does not take a specific position on any religion or political organization. We stand as a 'total group'. We are peaceful. We do not yell in all-caps at each other. OWS is a free speech platform. There are teach-ins. We have General Assembly meetings every day. The one thing we all have in common is that we are the 99 percent that will no longer tolerate the greed and corruption of the 1 percent. There have been numerous local reports about our local OWS group. A local radio station interviewed and blogged about a few of us today. I kept warm today wearing my Internet Archive hat, (photo 8 of 9 from radio station blog), while I was protesting today in windy conditions with Occupy Fort Collins.

Picket the White House and picket the Fed Reserve, go after the greedy fucks in BOTH parties who are bought and payed for by W.Street greed! The decent people in the OWS and Teaparty have a LOT in common, but their info sources demonize the other, I can see it because i have (or try) to have an independent mind.
